Tanda Thermal Power Station is erected in the Vidyutnagar town of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. It falls under the category of coal based power plants of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The coal for this plant is sourced from the North Karnpura Coal Fields of Uttar Pradesh and the water is sourced from Tanda Pump Canal on the banks of river Saryu. The beneficiary state of this project is Uttar Pradesh.The primary fuel utilised for the Tanda thermal power station is coal. The Power Station is owned and operated under the control of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. It was in the year 2000, the state electricity board transferred the Tanda Thermal Power Station to the National Power Corporation Limited.
The Units in operation in Stage 1 were 110 Megawatt for each of 4 units of it. For Stage 2, NTPC Limited has started installation of two new units of 660 Megawatts each. So the total power generation after the construction of Stage 2 is 1760 Megawatts. The operation of Tanda Thermal Power Station is under the control of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The approved capacity of this thermal plant is 440 Megawatt (4 x 110 Megawatts). Also the Installed Capacity is 440 Megawatts. As on Jan 2000, the transfer price taken over from UPSEB is around 693 crores.
