Tehri Hydro Electric Power Plant
Tehri Hydro Electric Power Plant is erected in the Bhagirathi and Bhilangana river confluence in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand in India. The power project is commissioned in 2006 with an approved and installed capacity of 2000 MW. The type of project is Major, since its capacity is larger than 25 MW. The type of plant is dam on river with reservoir. The power project is completed in two stages – Stage I (4 x 250) and Stage-II (4 x 250) pumped storage. The configuration of Powerhouse is having two 4 x 250 units in underground powerhouses and the Second powerhouse (units 5 to units 8) is having a reversible pumped storage. The status of the power plant is working. The source of river water for power generation is Bhagirathi and Bhilangana Confluence. The power plant is located in the Northern Hydroelectric Region of the country. The hydroelectric basin of the power plant is Ganga Basin. The hydroelectric development type of power plant is Storage.
The power plant is a Joint Venture of Central Government and Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC). The beneficiary states of the hydro electric power plant are Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. The power project consists of eight turbines with a capacity of 250 MW for each turbine. The type of turbine used in the plant is Francis and its maker is Turbo Atom, Ukraine. The maker of Generator is Silovye Mashiny. The unit size is 2000 MW having eight units of 250 MW each. There are eight units and all are commissioned.
How to Reach: Regular buses are available from Tehri Garhwal to the power station. Tehri Garhwal railway station and Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to all parts of India.
