Thirot Hydro Power Project

The Thirot Hydro Power Project is situated in the Thirot river of Lahaul and Spiti district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Thirot Hydroelectric power project is commissioned in 1995. The installed and approved capacity of power plant is 4.5 Megawatt. The type of project is small, since it is between 5 MW and 25 MW. The status of power project is Operational. The source of water for the generation of power is Thirot River and the basin is Indus River. The Thirot Hydro Power Project is erected in the North Hydroelectric Region of the country. The power plant is owned and operated by Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board undertaken by State Government.

The beneficiary states or Union Territories of this hydroelectric power plant are Northern States of India. The power project is completed in 1995 and after that the power plant started its operations. The type of Turbine used in the power plant is Pelton. The unit size of the power project is 4.5 MW (1.5 MW x 3 units). The total number of units in the power plant is 3 and all the units are operational. Also all the three units are commissioned with an installed capacity of 1.5 MW for each units.

How to Reach: The Thirot Hydro Power Project is located in the Thirot village of Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh. You can arrive this thirot plant by Road, Rail or Air. Transport buses and taxi cabs are running between the districts of Manali, Shimla and Kinnaur Valley to the Spiti. So you can easily access the Thirot power plant by Road. Spiti does not have any railway station and Airport. So the nearest railway stations are Joginder Nagar railway station and Shimla railway station. The nearest airport is Kullu Airport at Bhuntar of Kullu.
