Kovilkalappal (Thirumakottai) Gas Power Station

The Kovilkalappal (Thirumakottai) Gas Power Plant is situated at approximately 18 km from Mannargudi, Thiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu, India. The total installed capacity of the plant is 107 MWe.

The plant is at fully operating condition and is a combined cycle gas turbine power plant. Here natural gas is served as the primary fuel. The gas supply needed for 90% PLF is 0.51 and the linkage is 0.29. The electric power from the plant is connected to the regional grid. the main source of fuel for the plant is from ONGC wells, which are located at a distance of about 10 km from the plant.

The plant has two different units. The first unit is commissioned on 05-February-2001 with an installed capacity of 69 MWe. The turbine used in this unit is Gas Turbine -1. The second unit has an installed capacity of 38 MWe and is commissioned on 05-February-2001. Steam Turbine -1 is the turbine model used in this unit. This is a state government ownership power plant and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) is the owner of the plant having all the 100% share. The operating company of the plant is also TANGEDCO.
