1. Jaisalmer in Rajasthan
Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is situated around six hundred kilometers away from the Pink city, Jaipur. The state is popularly called as the golden city of Rajasthan, since the town stands on the crest of yellowish stonework, crowned by a fort called as Golden Fort. The Fort consists of several ornate Jain temples. Many of the houses and shrines are thinly sculptured. The Fort lies in the heart of the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer Golden Fort (Sonar Quila): The Golden Fort of Jaisalmer was established in the earlier years of 12 century (1156) by a Bhati Rajput Rao Jaisal. He not only established the fort, but also named the fort with the help of an advice taken from a hermit who survived there in a cave near the top of a rocky hill.
