Upper Bari Doab Canal (UBDC) Hydroelectric Project is erected in along the 3 powerhouses of the UBDC at Ferozpur, Sujanpur, and Sarna. The power project is commissioned in 1971 with an approved and installed capacity of 91 MW. The type of project is Major. The powerhouse is built such that the three sets of two powerhouses situated in the canal. The status of the power plant is operational. The basin of power plant is Indus River up to the country’s boundary. The Hydroelectric Basin of the plant is Indus Basin. The source of water for the generation of power in the plant is Ravi River and also the UBDC emerging from Ranjit Sagar Dam. The power project is situated in the Northern Hydroelectric Region of the Country. The purpose of plant is the generation of hydroelectric current.

UBDC Hydroelectric Project is owned by the State Government and the operator of the power plant is by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited. The beneficiary states of the plant are Punjab and its neighbouring States. The power project is completed in 1971 and soon it started its operation. The total number of turbines in the plant is six and capacity per Turbine is 15 MW of 3 turbines and 15.5 MW of 3 turbines. The type of Turbine used in the plant is Vertical Shaft Kaplan. The manufacturer of Turbine for the first unit is by the AEI – UK and for the second and third unit is by the HEL and the fourth to sixth units is by the BHEL. Also the manufacturer of Generator is by the AEI - UK, HEL and BHEL. The unit size of plant is 91 MW. The total number of units in the plant is six and all the units are commissioned.
