Upper Kolab Hydroelectric Project

Upper Kolab Hydroelectric Project is erected in the Kolab Dam which is about five km South East of Jeypore in Koraput of Odisha. The power project is commissioned in 1989 with an approved and installed capacity of 320 MW. The type of project is Major due to its capacity is greater than 25 Megawatt. The configuration of power house is Vertical Francis (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited). The structure of plant is like a Dam on a river with Reservoir. The status of project is completed and is Operational. The power project is erected in the Kolab River, with a main reservoir called Kolab Reservoir.

The owner of the power station is Odisha Government and the operator of the power plant is Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC). The beneficiary states of the power plant are Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The hydroelectric power project is completed and started its operations in 1989. The total number of turbines in the plant is four and capacity of each turbine is 80 MW. The structural type of Turbine is Vertical Francis. The manufacturer of Turbine of the hydroelectric project is Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited of Bhopal and the manufacturer of Generator of the hydroelectric project is by the BHEL of Haridwar. The unit sizes of plant are 320 MW. There are four units in operation and all the four units are commissioned.
