Valuthur Gas Turbine Power Station Ramanathapuram

The Valuthur Gas Power Plant is situated at Valuthur village, Perungulam Post, Ramananthapuram, district, Tamil Nadu. The total installed capacity of the power plant is 186.2 MWe.

This is a fully operational and is a combined cycle gas turbine type power plant. Here natural gas is used as the primary fuel. The gas supply needed for 90% PLF is 0.89 and the linkage is 0.66. the electric power from the plant is mainly connected to the regional grid. The fuel needed for the plant is taken from ONGC wells of Ramnad zone.

The plant has four different units. The first unit is commissioned on 24-December- 2002 with an installed capacity of 58.9 MWe. The second unit is commissioned on 13-March-2003 with an installed capacity of 35.1 MWe. The third and fourth units are commissioned on 01-September-2008 with an installed capacity of 58.5 and 33.7 MWe. this is a state government ownership power plant and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) is the owner of the plant. the operating company of the plant is also Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). The power generated from the plant is mainly distributed to Perungulam, Mandapam, R.S.Madai, Keelakarai & Valinokkam of both Ramanathapuram and Sivagangai Districts. The power plant helped to overcome the low voltage problems in Ramanathapuram District. The plant helps the development of small and major industries in Ramanathapuram District.
