Sholayar II Power House

Sholayar II Power House is erected in the Sholayar Reservoirs of Coimbatore District in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The first unit of power house is commissioned in 1971 with an installed capacity of 25 MW. The basin, where the power house is located is Sholayar River. As the capacity of power house is more than 25 MW, the project fall under ‘Major’ type. The plant type is Dam on the river with a Reservoir. The Status of power plant is completed and is operational. The main reservoir is located in the upper sholayar reservoir. The power house is erected in the southern hydroelectric region of the country. The source of water for the generation and distribution of power in the power house is from the Sholayar River.

The power house is owned by State Government and the operator of the power house is Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation. The beneficiary states of the power plant are Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The power project of construction of power house is completed in 1971 and after that it started its operations. Vertical Francis is the turbine type of power house. The maker of Turbine of the plant is by the Litostroj Yugoslavia and the maker of Generator of the plant is by the Rade-Konchar Yugoslavia. There is only a single unit in the turbine and capacity per turbine of the power house is 25 MW. The Unit Size of power house is 25 MW having only a single unit and it was commissioned.
