Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station is erected at Salakati in Kumguri village of Kokrajhar taluk in the Indian state of Assam. The power plant is one amongst the coal based power plants of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited.The coal for the plant will be derived from Makum coal mines at Margherita, Assam and also from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).

Bongaigaon Thermal Power Plant was first commissioned in June 2015. The Approved Capacity of Bongaigaon Thermal Power Plant is 750 Megawatt and the installed Capacity of this thermal power plant is 750 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is Operational. There are three Units. All of the three units are in service. Each of the three units has an approved capacity of 250 Megawatt each. The source of Coal for the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Plant is Margherita area in Assam under NECL and Raniganj in the state of West Bengal that is from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). The primary fuel used for the generation of power in Power Plant is Coal. The power plant is managed and controlled by the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. The beneficiary state of this power plant is Assam.

The first unit was commissioned in June 2015 with an approved capacity of 250 Megawatt. The second unit was also commissioned in March 2017 with an approved capacity of 250 Megawatt. The third unit was commissioned in March 2019 with an approved capacity of 250 Megawatt.
